This was the portrait I first did when interested in portraiture by embroidery. It took three months. I had never touched a needle and had never picked up fabric without the intent of wearing it. I began this piece from the concept of doing coloring books as a child. I developed a line drawing (cartoon), transferred the design to cloth, and then filled in the lines with color (stitches). Jolly Green Giant (JGG) is entirely done using a satin stitch, which is very basic and easy to do. JGG, to me, was always a purveyor of vast rolling hills of plump vegetation, which is soon to be flash frozen and brought to my table. I ate my peas then and I eat my peas now. “Ho, Ho, Ho…”
