The draw I have to Henry VIII is initially all aesthetic…the plume, the jewels, the palaces, the wives. LOVE. I have come to learn he was one of the more ruthless and tyrannical kings of England. I chose this piece less for Henry, but more importantly for his six wives who where each so different from each other. I chose the royal colors of lavender, green and plumb, which were prevalent during his reign. Each of the emerald beads on this piece, are sewn on individually. This portrait contains the old British childhood rhyme telling the tale of how each of the wives met their end: “Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived.”
