Gandhi was a man who lived a life with great humility and was a greatly loved world leader. His methods of non-violent demonstration attracted followers in the billions and later would influence Martin Luther King, Jr. I was 12 years old when I saw the film Gandhi during its initial release. I was transfixed during the entire three hours. I used colors that felt to me of his country, India. This is the first portrait in which I used the embroidery method Stumpwork. Stumpwork is the method of placing many knots closely together to form a shape or design. I use the term “Over One Billion Served” to tell of his years of service to and for his people.
