Seabiscuit was a little horse, who was physically flawed and yet won many races during the Great Depression. I became enthralled with his story of getting America and Europe caught up in his victories on the track. This is the first piece in which I use my current technique of breaking down the form (usually the face) in to little fields that have a Backstitch worked in a circle from outside to inside. By doing this, the piece adopts a “glistening” effect when the portrait is viewed at different angles. Working in circles, as with this new technique, and Seabiscuit his track, was an easy way to remain focused on Seabiscuit, who rose to heights never before seen and accomplished many more things thought possible of him.
