The story of the Eisenhowers was one I didn’t think I would be drawn to at all. In the end, their story to me is one of a marriage that most people hear of in fairy tales. There is an appliquéd quote in the quilt that reads: “They usually went to bed before midnight she reading her mysteries and he reading his Westerns”. Their lives summed up by a little daily ritual. How many of us cherish the same little comforts in our own marriages? The colors I used were opposed but still were able to blend well. I primarily used Ike’s Army browns and greens and Mamie’s signature color pink. I added the word “Meet”, as an appliqué, to give the feel of a 1950’s television couple. Idyllic and poised…but undeniably in love.
