Idi Amin was a ruthless dictator whom ruled Uganda from 1971-79. His reign can be attributed to almost a million exterminations. The papers afraid of his tyranny and brutal force began the rumor that Amin would kill his opponents and then eat them. This was never fully proven. Using the phrase “All You Can Eat” helps in speaking of his insatiable appetite when trying to devour the world. Arrogant. Charming. Exacting. Paranoid. Amin embodied a modern day Caligula in a small corner of the world never before heard of. Amin died in 2003, exiled in Saudi Arabia and reviled by his people and the country he ruled. During his halcyon days Amin gave himself the most humble title of: “His Excellency President for Life.” Amin lived in a dream world filled with terror and suffering void of human rights and the chance of hope.
