Judas Iscariot is an apostle of Christ’s whom we know as the one who betrayed him to the Romans. His reward for doing this was 40 pieces of gold (stitched here on the landscape of the portrait). There are also accounts which say he betrayed Christ for as low as 30 pieces of silver. Actual payment aside, I used the phrase “Deal or No Deal” to emphasize the fact Judas at one point had to decide if he was going to take the deal or if he was going to stay true to his lord. He “took the deal” and lived for a short time with the guilt until he hanged himself from a tall tree. When Judas’ body was found the money was also…the coins were not able to be returned to the treasury…but used for a burial plot instead.
