Pope was one of the greatest poet’s from the eighteenth century. He created epic and satirical verses about the society he tried so hard to ingratiate himself with. This quilt mentions him as the 3rd most quoted writer/poet. Pope’s humour verged on the cutting and sometimes snippy. This fitting as his greatest poem, The Rape of the Lock, was about a woman who attended a party and had an admirer SHOCKINGLY cut a lock of her hair without her permission. At this time in English Society, that act was equal to a rape.
